drakensberg-boys-choir-2The world renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir School is situated next to the Dragon Peaks Park en route to Monks Cowl Camp. The choir draws inspiration for its exuberant performances from the beautiful surroundings. The school educates the members of the Drakensberg Boys Choir. It was founded in 1967 and claims to be the only choir school in Africa. Enrollment is approximately 120 boys aged 9 to 15. The school has a 600-seat auditorium constructed in 1995 and holds weekly concerts. The Choir has toured the USA, Europe, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mauritius and many African countries

The Concerts

The Drakensberg Boys Choir hold a concert every Wednesday afternoon at the Drakensberg Boys Choir School in the Champagne Valley in the Central Drakensberg. This is one of those local events that are not to be missed. The show is a sublime experience and for sure you will be buying a few of their CD’s during interval. The Experience

The Drakensberg Boys Choir is internationally famous for its African flair and for dramatising favorite works such as Shosholoza and Night Sounds. While the Drakensberg Boys are best known for their formal choral music, the boys also excel at jazz, religious, popular and folk music. The choir also performs a wide variety of coral renditions ranging from Bach to Freddy Mercury, with a liberal sprinkling of traditional folk songs from both the African and Afrikaans cultures.
