Drakensberg activities – Horse Trails
We offer horse trails right here on the farm and are particularly suited to beginners. We practice the gentler horse whispering methods to train our horses and go for slow outrides on the farm. The rides here are safe and slow still lots of experienced riders have enjoyed what we offer.
Drakensberg activities – Hot Air Ballooning
Antbear Lodge offers a hot air balloon take off site right in front of the lodge. Wake up and join us for a cup of coffee while you watch the inflation of a hot air balloon. Experience the awesome thrill and peaceful serenity of hot air ballooning on the edge of the Drakensberg mountains. You will meet at the hot air balloon launch site approximately 30 minutes before sunrise, your pilot will then give you a safety briefing. Once the hot air balloon is heated and you are in the balloons basket you will enjoy a flight of around an hour. After helping to pack up the hot air balloon you will return to Antbear Lodge for breakfast with champagne.
Microlight Flights
Andrew is passionate about his microlight and if the weather is fine you might just be in luck to fly with him. Glide with vultures or fly across the Drakensberg escarpment. Either way you will be in for a treat.
Drakensberg activities – Hiking Trails
Antbear Lodge offers a few different hiking trail options on the property. Hike to the top of the hill on a 3 hour round trip where you can enjoy some spectacular views. Take a picnic lunch with you. A shorter 1 hour trail that visits the dams on the property makes for a lovely stroll in the afternoon.
Relaxing
While it is important to remain active and its good for us all to keep our minds busy, it is imperative to relax too! Not making time to relax more often than not leaves you stressing. So take the time to just do nothing soaking up the view on a sun lounger or enthralled by a great book.
Animal Farm
Young children can enjoy interacting with farm animals and learn to milk a cow. A horse ride can be arranged. Children are safe to explore the farm on their own or with their newly made friends. They can look forward to discovering chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, cows, dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, sheep and a mule.
Woodworking Lessons
So if you have ever fancied trying your hand at artistic woodworking well here is the opportunity of a lifetime. Andrew loves to share his knowledge and will work alongside you to create something of your own. Perhaps spend a few days and go home with your own hand made chess set, table and chairs of headboard for your bed. It is quite incredible to see how our guests transform into real woodworking artists.
Mountain Biking
The mountain terrain is ideal for keen mountain bikers to explore, offering gentle gradients with spectacular scenery, bring your own mountain bikes.
